6 April 2011 – Stella Artois today announced the shortlist for its casting call for the role of the legendary Jacques d’Azur in a short film that will premiere in Cannes on May 20.
Last month, Stella Artois launched a global search to find the perfect leading man to play Jacques d’Azur…and the perfect woman to play the leading lady.
Since then, thousands of would-be Jacques from around the world have submitted their casting videos online in the hopes of landing the role of the legendary d’Azur – and a fabulous trip to the Cannes Film Festival to attend the short film’s premiere.
A shortlist of 200 has now been chosen from all submitted auditions, half based on votes from the public and half selected by a judging panel that scored the entries by presentation, skill and creativity. Stella Artois’ expert judging panel will now choose the leading man from this shortlist, and the ultimate winner will be announced April 13 on www.stellaartois.com, before jetting off to film their part later in the month.
In an effort to find someone with that certain je ne sais quoi, Stella Artois used the latest digital technology to conduct auditions via webcam, enabling individuals from around the world to play a scene opposite the lovely leading lady. Would-be leading ladies also had the chance to audition to play opposite the ‘King of Cannes’. The resulting casting reels were then uploaded to the Stella Artois casting call website where members of the public could vote for their favourite.
The competition attracted some diverse performances from the sublime to the ridiculous, with the website receiving around 500,000 hits during the month-long submission period, as well as mentions on blogs and in social media around the world.
After filming their part in the highly anticipated biopic, our new star will travel in style to the jewel of the French Riviera to attend their premiere in Cannes on May 20. The full film star experience will be theirs to enjoy, with the screening followed by a star studded party at Chez Jacques’, Stella Artois’ sophisticated, invitation-only lounge at the Carlton Hotel’s exclusive beachfront property.
Alexander Lambrecht, Global Marketing Manager, Stella Artois, says “The response to the campaign has been massive, with a huge selection of entries including the good, the bad and the downright bizarre! As proud sponsor of the Cannes Film Festival we wanted to bring the magic of film to life, and for one lucky Stella Artois fan, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for a taste of stardom at this most prestigious event in the film calendar.”
