– A first for Budweiser and The FA Cup –
London, August 17, 2011 – Sports broadcasting history will be made this Friday (19 August) as the opening match of the new FA Cup season becomes the first game ever to be broadcast live on Facebook by Budweiser, the lead partner of The FA Cup.
Budweiser has worked with the Football Association to enable football fans to stream the ‘first kick’ Ascot United versus Wembley F.C. fixture straight from the Budweiser fan page. The 90-minute live stream will be available free via an application Budweiser has built specifically for the world’s largest social network, Facebook.
Iain Newell, Budweiser’s Marketing Director, comments:
“Budweiser is committed to promoting The FA Cup around the world like never before and what better way to demonstrate this than by showing the very first kick to a global viewing audience via Facebook, and connecting fans around the world to this iconic tournament. This is the first time an FA Cup tournament fixture has been broadcast live on the social network, which can only be good news for football fans and the clubs involved.”
The extra preliminary FA Cup round kicks off at 7.45pm on Friday 19 August 2011 at Ascot United’s Racecourse Ground with the live streaming coverage starting at 7.30pm through the Budweiser UK Facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/BudweiserUK).
Mike Harrison, Chairman of Ascot United, comments:
“To be involved in the first game of The FA Cup this season is an honour in itself, but to be part of a world first and have our match broadcast to a massive global audience is fantastic for our club.”
The live streaming via www.facebook.com/BudweiserUK is only available to people of legal drinking age.
Notes to Editors
Consumers aged 18 and over must ‘like’ Budweiser’s Facebook fan page in order to gain access to the free live streaming of the game.
