Samlesbury, 31st March 2017: Samlesbury Brewery, owned by AB InBev, the world’s leading brewer, has today celebrated its 45th anniversary.

The day was marked with a special visit from the Mayor of South Ribble Councillor Linda Woollard, who attended a tour of the brewery, had lunch with workers and cut a ceremonial ribbon to mark the occasion.

Samlesbury Brewery brewed its first pint of beer on 31st March 1972. Now the brewery produces over 440 million pints a year and brews 13 different brands of beer – from global names such as Stella Artois and Budweiser to local favourites Boddingtons and Bass. Last month, Samlesbury Brewery began producing Bud Light, following its arrival in the UK.

The site employs over 250 local workers – some of whom have celebrated four decades of working at the brewery.

To mark the anniversary, AB InBev invited brewery workers to develop a special ‘anniversary brew’. Based on a Stella Artois formula, the winning brew is 6% ABV and has a slightly sweeter taste. The winning bottle label was designed by Aleksandra Czupajlo who created a green and gold design for the brewery’s special batch of Samlesbeer – which is only available to employees to mark the anniversary year.

The anniversary was rounded off with the Mayor cutting a special anniversary cake and having lunch with Samlesbury’s long-serving workers – enjoying a pint of Bud Light alongside her food.

Stanislav Chulkov, Brewery Manager at Samlesbury, said: “Samlesbury brewed its first pint of beer on the 31st March 1972. Much has changed since then – but not our passion for creating great-tasting beers, made by locals and brewed with love. We have already achieved great things at the brewery during our 45-year history and no doubt we have more exciting goals and ambitions on the horizon. I want to thank all of our Samlesbury staff, past and present, for their dedication to the brewery and the hard work they do to produce great beer that people around the world love. Cheers to another 45 years of brewing at Samlesbury!”

Jason Warner, President of AB InBev North Europe, said: Samlesbury brewery is not only home to some of our favourite beer brands, it is also home to an incredible heritage, pioneering innovation in brewing and the highest possible standards amongst its dedicated team of people. As an organisation whose ambition is to bring people together, Samlesbury is one of our biggest assets.”

Nigel Evans MP, Ribble Valley, said: I have been MP for Samlesbury and the surrounding Ribble Valley area since 1992. I am also the President of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Beer and take my love of beer so seriously that I live next door to a pub – the fabulous Swan with Two Necks.  As a native Welshman, it’s with great pride that I say I’ve watched the Samlesbury brewery flourish over the years, supporting jobs in the local area and brewing some of the world’s most iconic and recognised beers. I am very pleased to have the world’s largest brewery right here in my constituency and I look forward to seeing AB InBev’s range of beers continue flourish, particularly with the growth of low and no alcohol brands.”
